Skabo Named To Wilkes County Post

NORTH WILKESBORO— The Wilkes Board of Education has approved naming Chris Skabo to the new position of coordinator of county athletics and healthful living, according to various media reports.

Skabo currently serves as athletic director and head men’s varsity basketball coach at West Wilkes High School, and he has served a four-year term on the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Board of Directors. He will start in the new position on July 1.

Scottie Greene has been named the new head men’s varsity basketball coach at West Wilkes, but no replacement for athletic director has been named.

Skabo will replace Steve Triplett in the Wilkes County central office. Triplett was the school system’s transportation director, which includes responsibility for school buses, and athletic director until his retirement. No decision has been reached yet on who will be responsible for transportation.

Skabo currently serves on the NCHSAA Education and Athletics Committee, which reviewing various policies to determine where revisions are needed and is making recommendations to the NCHSAA Board of Directors.
