A member of the Davie High School Hall of Fame died of breast cancer last week at the age of 46.
Angie Browder Slabach, who was a great basketball player at Davie and later coached there, died after a three-year battle with cancer.
She played at Davie from 1981 to ’84 as her War Eagles won three North Piedmont Conference championships. She also earned all-conference honors in volleyball and track and field.
After graduation from Davie, she went to UNC-Wilmington on a basketball scholarship but later transferred to High Point. She went back to her high school alma mater and coached the women’s basketball team from 1988 through the 1993-94 season, guiding her team to three conference championships.
Slabach is survived by her husband and their four children.
