Exemplary, Sportmanship Awards Available For NCHSAA Members

EXEMPLARY, SPORTSMANSHIP AWARDS AVAILABLE FOR NCHSAA MEMBERS

North Carolina High School Athletic Association member schools are eligible for two very prestigious awards.

Information was emailed to principals and athletic directors earlier in the week with details about the process.

The Exemplary School Award recognizes the top overall school in the state in terms of the “total program,” including but not limited to academics, athletic success, scope ofopportunities offered, sportsmanship, community interest and involvement, and facilities.

The Sportsmanship Award is designed to recognize a school that has been ejection free, has a plan to promote and implement good sportsmanship, is welcoming to visiting fans, makes appropriate accommodations for officials and their own fans demonstrate good sportsmanship.

The awards are given as a cooperative venture among the NCHSAA, the North Carolina Coaches Association and the North Carolina Athletic Directors Association. In addition to a banner for display at the respective schools, each school receives a $1000 cash award.

Through a variety of sources, the NCHSAA receives nominations for schools for these awards, but in an effort to make it as inclusive as possible, schools also have the opportunity to nominate themselves for these honors. Schools may also nominate other member schools for either honor.

To be considered for either award, we are asking the school provide additional material via email. Any questions from member schools may be directed to associate commissioner Rick Strunk.
