WINSTON-SALEM—David Hamlin has been selected as the new head football coach at Atkins High School, according to a recent report in the Winston-Salem Journal.
Hamlin has served as the junior varsity football coach at R.J. Reynolds for the past two years. This is his first stint as a varsity head coach.
Hamlin steps in for Eric Puryear, who resigned after four years with a mark of 10-33 at Atkins.
The new Atkins coach is a 1991 graduate of Winston-Salem State, where he was a punter on the football team. He spent several years working in the automobile business while also coaching as a volunteer or an assistant at a variety of places. He eventually left business to get involved in more directly with the schools.
