Two Catawba County high schools, Bandys and Maiden, have a fierce football rivalry, but according to a report in the Hickory Daily Record, the two schools are cooperating to fight cancer.
The Trojans and Blue Devils will meet on Friday in their varsity football clash, but they are working together to raise money for cancer research. This is the third year the schools have been involved with a project like this with the proceeds going to the Komen Foundation.
Each school has special T-shirts available for sale that feature both school logos. There are four designs, including three in camo.
Some area restaurants are also participating with “Pinkout Spirit Day,” donating a percentage of their proceeds to the effort. On Wednesday, one area restaurant, the Brookwood Cafe & Catering, will host what is known Varsity Blue Pinkout Sprit Day. A percentage of the proceeds from all meals served that day will go to the cancer fund.
Members of Maiden’s Varsity Blue, the football team and cheerleaders are scheduled to wait tables at the restaurant.
