STUDENTS FROM UNION PINES & EAST WILKES EARN PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL— Emily Bowbliss from Union Pines High School and Trey Lambert from East Wilkes High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Bowbliss, a sophomore from the Union Pines women’s soccer and track teams, won both the 200 Meter Dash and the 400 Meter Dash at the Tri-County Meet on Thursday, also anchoring the 4 X 200 Relay team. She won the 200 Meter in a time of 27.54 seconds, and the 400 Meter in 1:02.14. On Friday, she suited up for the soccer team and score 3 goals as the Vikings knocked out Western Harnett 5-0. Saturday in the Patriot Relays, she anchored three relay teams, lifting the 4 X 200 Relay team from fourth to second on her leg, and when she took the baton in the 4 X 400 Relay, she was 15 meters behind Pinecrest, sprinting away to a 10-meter victory. Her performance helped Union Pines win the Patriot Relays.

Lambert, a junior on the East Wilkes baseball team, threw a no-hitter against Ashe County with 20 strikeouts and only two walks. The no-hitter was his third consecutive no-hitter after throwing no-hitters against Avery County and North Wilkes in his last two outings. He also provided some offense for East Wilkes, slashing a pair of hits against Ashe County and reaching base on a hit by a pitch and walk. He stole a pair of bases, scoring two runs and driving in four.

Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. They will also be honored at a banquet for all recipients from this year in April. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
