MCGEE, MCKEE WILL MEET IN NCHSAA 1-A SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP



CARY – Danielle McGee of Hampstead Topsail will take on Mount Airy’s Maggie McKee on Saturday morning for the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 1-A women’s singles tennis championship.



Both players won a pair of matches on Friday at the Cary Tennis Center on the first day of play, and both had to rally from a set down in one match.

NCHSAA WOMEN'S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS SET TO START MONDAY



CHAPEL HILL—Top golfers from across the state will compete next week in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s 28th women’s state golf championships.



For the sixth year in a row, the NCHSAA will offer classified championships because the number of schools competing in the sport has grown. The two-day event will be held on Monday and Tuesday at two different sites.

NCHSAA SINGLES, DOUBLES CHAMPIONSHIPS UP FOR GRABS THIS WEEKEND IN WOMEN’S TENNIS



CHAPEL HILL – Championships in singles and doubles in four different classifications will be up for grabs this weekend as the North Carolina High School Athletic Association holds its annual women’s tennis tournament championships at three different sites.



Semifinalists in both singles and doubles at the regional level qualify for the state championships.

Please remember that you must register with the NWCA before beginning your schools hydration testing and/or skinfold measurements.



Also, if you hydration tester and/or skindfold measurer has changed from the 2007-08 school year please fill out and fax the "2008-09 Hydration Tester and/or Skinfolder measurer Change/New Form" on the wrestling page. All assessors from the 2007-08 school year were mailed or emailed their information.

NCHSAA DAY SET FOR SATURDAY AT KENAN STADIUM





CHAPEL HILL-- The North Carolina High School Athletic Association will be recognized by the University of North Carolina this Saturday at Kenan Stadium.



The North Carolina-Boston College football game, which has a kickoff time of noon, has been designated as the 24th annual NCHSAA Day. The university actually spearheaded the founding of the NCHSAA in 1913.

In this edition we are pleased to recognize Willie Bradshaw of Durham.



A native of Durham, Willie Bradshaw has devoted a lifetime of service to his city and his alma mater.

NCHSAA Coach-Captain Retreat Attracts Students From Across State



RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK-- The North Carolina High School Athletic Association held its fall 2008 Coach-Captain Retreat over the weekend of October 10-12, the 28th in the history of this program.



The event, part of the Association’s Student Services program, was held at the Radisson Governors Inn and attracted students from all over North Carolina.

In this edition we are pleased to recognize Thomas Henry "Toby" Webb, Jr.



Toby Webb helped build Albemarle into a well-known football power and served the schools there in a number of different capacities.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE AT EAST CAROLINA UNIVERSITY



GREENVILLE-- East Carolina University is offering several professional development opportunities that may be of great interest to the North Carolina High School Association membership.



The courses will be offered at ECU on Saturday, November 8, as part of the Division of Continuing Studies at East Carolina and in conjunction with the North Carolina Athletic Directors Association.

If your school POSTPONES its JV football game you may use the 8-quarter rule for the Friday varsity football game. Submit 8-quarter paperwork as usual.



If the JV game is CANCELLED and a JV player participates in the Friday varsity football game, it will count towards the maximum allowed 11 games per season. Therefore, no 8-quarter paperwork would need to be sent in.

In this edition we are pleased to recognize Everette "Shu" Carlton.



Shu Carlton was a highly successful football coach, athletic director and principal during a career that covered five decades in education, making his mark primarily in Gastonia.

In this edition we are pleased to recognize Doris Howard.



One of the winningest female coaches in the history of North Carolina, Doris Howard had a 41-year career as a teacher and coach in Cumberland County. She retired after the 1987-88 season with a career coaching mark in women's basketball of 533-231.

124 NCHSAA SCHOOLS ARE EJECTION FREE FOR 2007-08



CHAPEL HILL-- The North Carolina High School Athletic Association announced today that 124 member schools in the NCHSAA were ejection free during the 2007-08 school year.



The schools will recognized at the Association’s upcoming regional meetings in the next two weeks. There were a total of 375 member schools in the NCHSAA last year.
