NCHSAA Track and Field Championships Set For Irwin Belk Track at North Carolina A&T

     GREENSBORO — Top athletes from across the state of North Carolina will compete in a busy weekend of track and field as the North Carolina High School Athletic Association begins its state championships.
                 The weekend of competition features 3-A championships for both men and women on Friday, and then on Saturday the 4-A championships will be held, all at the Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University.
               The 1-A and 2-A meets will be held next weekend.
               Action in the field events will begin at 10 am and running events will start at 11 am. It will be the 91st annual men’s championships and the 40th annual renewal of the women’s event.

  Winterville South Central is the defending 3-A champion in women’s competition while Asheville won the 2010 3-A men’s team title. In 4-A, Raleigh Wakefield won last year’s women’s title while the Charlotte Vance men snapped a four-year hold New Bern had on the men’s crown.

 In 3-A regional action last week, defending state champ South Central won the East women’s title, while Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons, Waxhaw Marvin Ridge and North Buncombe were regional champs. The men’s teams winning 3-A regional titles last week included Rocky Mount, Fayetteville Douglas Byrd, West Rowan and Gastonia Forestvie.

  Wakefield won the Mideast 4-A women’s regional while T.C. Roberson, Mount Tabor and Southeast Raleigh also captured team titles in their respective regionals. The men’s regional champs include Charlotte Vance, the defending state champs, along with Pffaftown Reagan, Cary and Knightdale.

Admission to the championship each day is six dollars.

 The Greensboro Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Greensboro Sports Commission are serving as the host city sponsors for the event.
