Mooresville, Jacksonville Take 3-A Track Titles

GREENSBORO – Senior Jamel Allison of Mooresville earned

Most Valuable Performer honors as led Mooresville to the state team

championship in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association men’s

3-A track and field championships at the Irwin Belk Track on the campus of

North Carolina A&T State University on Friday.

Allison earned the Most Valuable Performer award in the

meet by capturing first place in both the triple jump and the long jump,

finishing eighth in the high jump and running a leg on the four by 100 relay

team.

Mooresville tallied 75.5 points in the men’s standings to

56 for runner-up Winston-Salem Carver. Asheville was third with 52 and

Jacksonville White Oak and Cameron Union Pines each had 34 points to tie for

fourth. A total of 51 schools scored points in the men’s meet.

Jake Deaton of Mooresville was also a double winner,

winning the shot and the discus, while White Oak’s Darryl Williams took

first in both the 100 and 200.

Jacksonville took the women’s title with 74 points, with

defending champ Asheville T.C. Roberson the runner-up with 53.50, just ahead

of Western Guilford with 52. Greensboro Dudley was fourth with 41 points and

Jamestown Ragsdale fifth at 36.

A total of 55 schools scored points in the women’s meet.

Senior Kelsey McCorkle took a pair of individual first

places in the 100 and 200 and earned the women’s MVP award.

The Greensboro Convention and Visitors Bureau, the

Greensboro Sports Commission, and Chick-Fil-A of downtown Greensboro served

as the host city sponsors for the event, and Wendy’s and the Carolina Ford

Dealers are the presenting sponsors of the NCHSAA sports program.
