Defending Champ Rollinson Among 2-A Singles Semifinals

DEFENDING CHAMP ROLLINSON AMONG SINGLES SEMIFINALISTS

AS MIDEAST REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVES DOMINATE PLAY

CARY – Two-time defending singles champion Will Rollinson of Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons advanced to the state semifinals after Friday action in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 2-A men’s tennis tournament championships at the Cary Tennis Center.

Rollinson of Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons had an easy time advancing, winning his first match by default and then capturing a 6-2, 6-0 victory over East Duplin’s Nolan Outlaw.

The qualifiers to the state tournament from the Mideast Regional dominated, as all four singles semifinalists and three of the four teams advancgin to the doubles semifinals are from that region. Of the 15 matches all the Mideast entries played on Friday in both singles and doubles, collectively they lost only two sets.

Rollinson will face Carrboro’s Amir Najmabadi, the number-four seed from the Mideast, while Graham’s Tyler Cook (Mideast 3) will play Michael Reilly of Cardinal Gibbons (Mideast 2) in the Saturday morning semis at 9 am. Rollinson downed Cook in last year’s singles championship.

Defending doubles state titlists Ryan Daly and Jonathan Fedorkowicz won both of their Friday matches in straight sets, losing only two games total, to advance to the semifinals.

Last year’s state runners-up, William Gray and Taylor Sullivan of Kill Devil Hills First Flight, also won two matches on Friday to earn a semifinal berth.

The Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Raleigh Sports Consortium are the host city sponsors for these tennis championships. Wendy’s and the Carolina Ford Dealers are presenting sponsors of the NCHSAA sports program
