Mount Pleasant Field Named For Honeycutt

MOUNT PLEASANT—Mount Pleasant High School has named its football field in honor of a long-time coach, according to a report in the Independent-Tribune.

The school’s field was officially named Larry Honeycutt Field at Tiger Stadium during festivities surrounding Mount Pleasant’s game with nearby rival Central Cabarrus.

Honeycutt spent many years at Mount Pleasant serving 26 years as the school’s athletics director. He spent 16 years as the head football coach, from 1968 to 1983, and also coached sports such as women’s basketball.

The Cabarrus County Board of Education approved the naming earlier this summer.

Honeycutt, age 73, has two grandsons currently playing on the Mount Pleasant team, Landon and Lawson. In 2012, he was inducted into the Cabarrus County Sports Hall of Fame.
