Scott Barbour Named Head Football Coach at Douglas Byrd

FAYETTEVILLE—Scott Barbour has been named as the new head football coach at Douglas Byrd High School, according to a report in the Fayetteville Observer.

Barbour is a former Douglas Byrd player and coach whose family has been very involved in the Byrd community.  Both Barbour and his late father Brad coached baseball at Byrd and the baseball field at the school has been named in the elder Barbour’s honor.

The new Byrd coach played for Bob Paroli at Byrd and is a 2004 graduate of Fayetteville State University.  He coached at Byrd before going to Jack Britt as an assistant coach on Richard Bailey’s staff for six years before Bailey was named head coach at Scotland. Barbour comes to Byrd after two years as offensive coordinator at St. Pauls.

Barbour replaces Russell Stone, who had been coaching after retiring as a teacher.
