Several New Records In NCHSAA Record Book

SEVERAL NEW RECORDSIN NCHSAA RECORD BOOK

Several new records achieved by western North Carolina student-athletes have been added to the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Record Book.

John Cannon of Mountain Heritage High School in Burnsville finished his career as the all-time leading shot blocker in NCHSAA men’s basketball, as listed in the Record Book. He finished his career with 606 blocks, including 194 during the 2010-11 season. The 194 is the second-best single season mark, behind the 210 blocks by Greensboro Dudley’s Eric Hicks in the 2001-02 campaign.

In addition, North Buncombe’s Cody Geyer finished his high school baseball career in 2010 with 45 career home runs, one better than the previous state record held by East Rutherford’s Chad Flack.

Geyer hit eight homers as a freshman, 12 in both in sophomore and junior years, and 13 as a senior for the total of 45.

Andrew Pearson of the Asheville Citizen-Times provided the information and documentation to add these records, and we are appreciative of his efforts.
