Grimsley Team Victorious In NCHSAA 4-A Doubles Final

NOBLE WINS NCHSAA 4-A MEN’S TENNIS SINGLES CROWN,

GREENSBORO GRIMSLEY TEAM TAKES DOUBLES TITLE

CHAPEL HILL – Ryan Noble of Fayetteville Terry Sanford held off a determined Andrew Malizia of Chapel Hill to win the singles title Saturday at the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 4-A men’s tennis tournament championships at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center on the campus of the University of North Carolina.

Noble beat Malizia in a tough three-setter, 6-2, 6-7(6), 6-1 to win the crown after beating Morrisville Green Hope’s Jake Bowling in a morning semifinal.

Noble had swept both of his singles matches on Friday, losing only two games in four sets. He was a member of a state 4-A championship doubles team with his brother Eric in 2006.

It was not a Terry Sanford sweep this time, however, as the Terry Sanford duo of Andrew Bock and Ryan Anderson fell to Greensboro Grimsley’s Connor Sherwood and Jon Roy in the doubles final in straight sets by 6-1, 6-2.

Sherwood and Roy eliminated Apex’s Viking Edeback and Wesley Barrett in a morning semifinal while the Terry Sanford team was ousting Brendan O’Connor and Ryan Forbes of Charlotte Ardrey Kell.
