WALLBURG—Ledford High School has announced that junior varsity women’s basketball coach Chris Doby has been named as the new women’s varsity head coach, according to the High Point Enterprise.
Doby will take over for veteran coach John Ralls, who has 701 coaching victories and has won four North Carolina High School Athletic Association state championships.
Ralls will continue as the women’s golf coach but said he is relinquishing the basketball duties because of upcoming surgeries, according to the paper.
Doby is a 1988 graduate of UNC Charlotte who played football at East Davidson High School. He worked in motorsports marketing for a while before embarking on his coaching career. He joined the Ledford faculty duringt the 2002-03 academic year and teaches marketing. He has also served as an assistant football coach as well as an assistant tennis coach.
He has been the head coach of the junior varsity team for the last two seasons.
Doby’s great uncle is John Doby, who himself was a tremendous coach at Trinity High School.
