  Registration & Eligibility 

All Officials MUST REGISTER and complete ALL pre-season Eligibility Requirements to work NCHSAA game assignments & acquire an Official’s Pass.

OFFICIAL’S REGISTRATION PROCESS 2022-2023 

                (Swimming & Diving Registration & Exam Deadline is December 12th, 2022.)

Register in NCHSAA     

  1.  Start by visiting our NCHSAA website:  /   
  2.  Go to the OFFICIALS’ tab, in the official’s drop-down box:  /officials  
  3.  Click on the “Registration” page to access all the Registration instructional links.

     
Register in Dragonfly

  1. Create your Dragonfly Account on Dragonflymax.com 
    – Enter your Email address & create a personal password.  (remember your Login information, you will use this same Login & Password each time you access your account.)
     
  2. Complete your Demographic information, & the General Information (2) questions.
    – ​​​​Click on the red tab that reads“START” (to the right-hand side)  and enter &/or update your Demographic Information. 
    Then click NEXT’ (at the top of the page), you must answer the TWO ‘General Information’ questions on this next screen; – and then click ‘DONE’ – (at the top). 
  3. Select your role as Official > select: CONTEST OFFICIAL

  4. Select your State (NC) & your State Association (NCHSAA)

  5. Select your Sports for 2022-2023:
    -Click & select/confirm/update the sports that you will be officiating this 2022-2023 school year. 
    Then click “SAVE SPORTS” in the bottom right corner of the pop-up box. 

  6. Select your Regional Supervisor(s) / Local Association(s) in your area 
    -For each sport that you plan to officiate.

  7. BACKGROUND CHECK:
    Complete the Background Check forms and Agreement and Terms in this section.  
    – Click on the red tab that reads: “START” (on right-hand side of the page).
    – Check-off all the little boxes and sign & complete all pages.  
    – Use your ‘legal’ name that is associated with your social security number. 

  8. Pay Registration Fee & Sport Fee
    Official must pay the $31 Registration Fee, and a Sport Fee

       – On the bottom of ‘Review & Payment’ section of their registration checklist page, Click on the red tab: “REVIEW & PAY.” 
       – Select $31. Registration Fee. This is a one-time, annual fee, which covers your Insurance and Background Check Fees for the entire school year.
       -Then select the Sport(s) Fee, and the total will calculate in the pop-up box, then enter your credit card information to complete the payment process. 
         
    (If you wish to pay for a Spring Sport at a later date, just UNCLICK the little blue box with the white checkmark beside the sport that you wish to pay at a later date.)

    New Officials Sport fee Waived!
    For our New Officials joining the NCHSAA for the very first-time! (not an existing official starting a new sport) 
    If you are joining the NCHSAA for the very first-time, have your Sport Fee waived by emailing, or calling Melissa Knight (melissa@nchsaa.org or #919-240-7374)
    (or unclick the little blue box w/the white checkmark sport fee(s) and then contact M.Knight after you pay only the $31. Registration Fee.) 

    After you have entered & submitted your credit card information in the payment section pop-up box, you will receive an email receipt from DragonFly in your Inbox.

  9. ‘Concussion in Sports’ online course.  
    After the above registration fee is paid, you can access the 'Cussion in Sports' exam.
       – Click on the red ‘Start’ tab – in the ‘Concussion in Sports’ section.
       – Pop-up box will appear,  Click on the Blue tab that reads: “IMPORT from NFHS LEARN;"
      IF you have already created an NFHSLearn account with a different email address, you will need to enter that email address in the little box provided in the center & click ‘ADD.’)
       – Then another pop-up box will appear, and if your email address is correct, just click on the blue tab: “Import Courses;”  

       For New Officials: 
       The link to the concussion course is conveniently provided for you on the 1st pop-up box.

        – Go to https://nfhslearn.com/courses/concussion-in-sports-2 and take the Concussion in Sports course.
        – Then go back to that pop-up box and select the "Import from NFHS Learn.”

       For Returning Officials:
       Once you ‘Import your Course,’ you will automatically be given credit for your completed concussion course, (IF you have already completed your online ‘Concussion in Sports’        course requirement this year or last year).
     

  10. Registration Complete!  Time for Eligibility testing!
    You have now completed your NCHSAA/DragonFly Registration process, congrats! 
    Now complete the Eligibility Requirement steps posted below (through your Regional Supervisor).

    • Stroke & Turn Judges:
      1. Stroke & turn exam (passing score of 75+
      2. State Rules Clinic
      3. NFHS ‘Concussion in Sports’ online course,
      4. Register with payment (All Officials must pay the $31. registration fee. – Only New Officials receive a waiver for their swimming sport fee, if joining the NCHSAA for the first-time.)
    • Referee:
      • Register with payment (All Officials must pay the $31. registration fee. – Only New Officials receive a waiver for their swimming sport fee, if joining the NCHSAA for the first-time.)
      • NFHS ‘Concussion in Sports’ online course
      • State Rules Clinic
      • Referee Exam (passing score of 75+
      • Stroke & Turn Exam (passing score of 90+)
    • USA Swimming Certified Officials – Stroke & Turn’ Judges or Referee:
      • Register with payment (All Officials must pay the $31. registration fee. – Only New Officials receive a waiver for their swimming sport fee, if joining the NCHSAA for the first-time.)
      • NFHS ‘Concussion in Sports’ online course
      • State Rules Clinic
      • IF they wish to be a Referee: – take the ‘Referee’ exam (passing score of 75+)
      • Stroke & Turn Exam (passing score of 90+)

    *DIVING ONLY: Registration & Eligibility Requirements

    Diving:

    • Diving Judges:
      1. Diving Exam – (w/passing score of 70+)
      2. State Rules Clinic
      3. NFHS ‘Concussion in Sports’ online course
      4. Register with payment (All Officials must pay the $31. registration fee. – Only New Officials receive a waiver for their swimming sport fee, if joining the NCHSAA for the first-time.)

     

    • USA Diving Certified Officials – Diving Judges:
      • USA Diving Officials – DO NOT have to take Diving Exam.
      • Register with payment (All Officials must pay the $31. registration fee. – Only New Officials receive a waiver for their swimming sport fee, if joining the NCHSAA for the first-time.)
      • NFHS ‘Concussion in Sports’ online course
      • State Rules Clinic

     

    • High School Coach Registering to be a Diving Judge:
      • NFHS ‘Concussion in Sports’ online course
      • State Rules Clinic – (Officials state rules clinic)
      • Coach needs to take the Diving Exam
      • Do NOT have to Register/nor pay.

     

     


    Exams 

    Swiming & Diving 2022 – 2023

              2022-2023 Swimming & Diving Exams will open on October 17th, 2022 & will close on December 12th, 2022

         How Do I Access Exams?

    1. Login to Dragonfly, Go to 'Registration Checklist' page.
      – Go to DragonFly [Link
      – Login with your NCHSAA/DragonFly Registration acct.
      – Go to your Registration checklist page (Use left-hand menu)

       
    2. Access Your Sport Testing site
      If your sport has begun testing, 
      – On the Registration Checklist page, Press the red tab 
      ‘NOT DONE’/ ‘START’ (the right-side of each sport), it will direct you straight to the NFHS Testing Site.

    Notes About Exams:

    •  You may stop and start your exam as many times as needed, but once you “SUBMIT THE EXAM” you will NOT be able to RE-ENTER nor RE-TAKE the EXAM!    
    • An email confirmation and score will be sent to your email, after you complete & submit your exam.

    Passing Exam Grades:

    • Swimming Passing Grade = 75% or better
    • Diving Passing Grade =       70% or better  
    • ‘Referee’ Certification =       90% on ‘Stroke & Turn’  AND  passing grade on ‘Referee’ Exam (75%+)
    • Stroke & Turn certification= 75%+ = Regular Season Eligible / 80%+ = Post-Season Eligible.
