CHAPEL HILL— Bree Council from Fike High School and Xavier Mayo from SouthWest Edgecombe High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week award, Powered by OrthoCarolina. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from coaches, media, and school administrators.
Council, a Sophomore on the Fike golf team, took home medalist honors by 6 strokes in the SSS Invitational on Tuesday. Earlier in the season, Council shot a 31 which is tied for the lowest 9-hole round in the state this season.
Mayo, a Senior on the SouthWest Edgecombe Football team, did it all in a 61-20 win over Greene Central. Mayo finished the game with 4 total touchdowns: 2 passing, 1 rushing, and 1 punt return, while adding 2 interceptions on the defensive side of the ball.
