CHAPEL HILL – Claire Curzan from Cardinal Gibbons High School and Garrett Melvin from East Bladen High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week award. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from coaches, media, and school administrators.
Curzan, a Junior on the Cardinal Gibbons Swim team, helped them repeat as 4A Eastern Regional Champions last week. Claire finished first in the 100 Fly and 100 Back: qualifying for an Automatic All-American time. She also helped her 200 Medley Relay secure 1st place with a Consideration All American time, and her 400 Free Relay broke a 17-year-old school record.
Melvin, a senior on the East Bladen Soccer team, led the Eagles to a 2-0 record for the week. Garrett recorded 8 goals and six assists in wins over East Columbus and West Columbus.
