CHAPEL HILL— Karlyn Pickens from North Buncombe High School and Delaync Shuler from Anson High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week award. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from coaches, media, and school administrators.
Pickens, a Junior on the North Buncombe Basketball team, recorded a triple-double on Tuesday in their game against Enka. She finished the game with 25 points, 16 rebounds, and 14 blocks.
Shuler, a Senior on the Anson Basketball team, led the Bearcats to a 2-0 start to conference play last week. On Tuesday, the Senior Guard set a school record with 55 points on 26-34 shooting against Montgomery Central. Laync followed up this performance on Friday by recording 40 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals in a win over Mount Pleasant.
Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
