Long-time basketball coach in Harnett County, Bennie Pollock, passed away at the age of 63. Pollock spent years coaching varsity girls at Western Harnett and then Harnett Central prior to his retirement. He came out of retirement for a time when Triton needed a junior varsity boys coach, working and teaching part-time at the school. His career spanned 40 years with Harnett County Schools.
Coach Pollock was an active member, deacon and Sunday school teacher at Pleasant Union Christian Church. He loved gardening and NC State athletics.
A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, March 2, 2020 at Pleasant Union Christian Church in Lillington. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends after the service in the church sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Union Christian Church, 2164 Neills Creek Rd., Lillington, NC 27546.
