CHAPEL HILL— Dylan Garcia from Franklin High School and Will Mitchell from Millbrook High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week award. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from coaches, media, and school administrators.
Garcia, a Senior on the Franklin Cross Country team, led the way in the 5000 Meter Run on Saturday breaking her own school record with a time of 19:04.90. Her time ranks as the 35th fastest in NCHSAA competition this year.
Mitchell, a Senior on the Millbrook Cross Country team, finished first in the 5000 Meter Run at WakeMed in Cary on Wednesday. His time of 15:47.00 is a season-best and good for the eighth fastest time in NCHSAA competition this year.
Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
