STUDENTS FROM ATKINS & ROCKINGHAM COUNTY EARN PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL— Ariana Gallos from Atkins and Noah Connor Rockingham County High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Gallos, a junior from the Camels women’s lacrosse team, helped lead the team to a 2-1 record for the week. Atkins secured wins over West Stokes and Western Guilford while dropping a hard-fought decision against Southwest Guilford. She scored 11 goals against Western Guilford in a 21-7 victory and netted six each against Southwest Guilford and West Stokes. Gallos has helped power the second-year program all season with 83 goals, 13 assists and 105 ground balls won. She is the team’s captain.

Connor, a senior on the Rockingham County men’s golf team, fired a five-under 67 at Greensboro National to capture medalist honors in the Mid-State 3A Conference Tournament. He pushed Rockingham County to a second-place team finish in the tournament helping to secure the group’s bid to the 2019 3A Regional Tournament.

Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. They will also be honored at a banquet for all recipients from this year in April. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
