STUDENTS FROM KINGS MOUNTAIN AND WEST MECKLENBURG EARN PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL— Natalie Lutz from Kings Mountain High School and Preston Brown from West Mecklenburg High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Lutz, a senior on the Kings Mountain women’s golf and tennis teams, has been the top seeded player in both sports at Kings Mountain for the last four years. Last week, Lutz played two conference tennis matches, winning both singles matches 6-0, 6-0 and followed up that performance on the golf course with an even par round of 36 and medalist honors in a conference golf match. Lutz and her doubles partner were finalists in the State Doubles Championship last year and won the title in 2016.

Brown, a senior on the West Mecklenburg football team, led the Hawks to a 46-0 win over Harding. He completed 22 of his 34 passes for 280 yards and 6 touchdowns. West Mecklenburg is 4-1 on the season with a 1-0 mark in South Meck 7 Conference play heading into a date with Ardrey Kell on Friday.

Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. They will also be honored at a banquet for all recipients from this year in early May. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
