STUDENTS FROM ROCKINGHAM COUNTY & COX MILL EARN PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL— Madeline Hardy from Rockingham County High School and Wendell Moore, Jr. from Cox Mill High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards for the week of February 19 – 24.

Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Hardy, a senior on the Cougars women’s basketball team, had 19 points in Rockingham County’s first round playoff win over Tuscola 43-34. In the game, she scored her 2,000th career point. In the 72-48 2nd round playoff win versus West Rowan, Hardy had 23 points and was a perfect 9 for 9 from the free throw line.   

Moore, a junior on the Cox Mill Men’s Basketball team, had 3 great games for the Chargers.  In the 1st round playoff win over Asheboro, Moore had 20 points, 2 rebounds, and 6 steals in the 67-24 win.  Against defending 4A Basketball State Champoions Southwest Guilford, Moore had 26 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 6 steals in the 78-34 win. Rounding out the week, Moore had a double-double, with 32 points and 12 rebounds, in the 81-57 win over Mt. Tabor in the 3rd round of the state playoffs. 

Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. They will also be honored at a banquet for all recipients from this year in late April. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
