STUDENTS FROM PERSON & ZEBULON VANCE EARN PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL— Hailey Long from Person High School and Nigel Summerville from Zebulon Vance High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Long, a senior on the Rockets volleyball team, had an outstanding week on the court piling up stats. She picked up 76 kills on the week, averaging 5.4 per game, 35 digs, 6 service aces and 13 blocks. So far this year, Long has helped Person to a 15-4 record. Long and the Rockets are set to face Rockingham County and Northeast Guilford this week.

Summerville, a senior on the Vance football team, set a school record by throwing six touchdown passes in a 47-21 win over Mooresville. Summerville passed for 414 yards in the three quarters he played, helping his Cougars to a 6-1 record on the season. Next up for Summerville and the Cougars is a date with West Charlotte on Friday.

Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. They will also be honored at a banquet for all recipients from this year in early May. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
