STUDENTS FROM HIBRITEN & PROVIDENCE EARN PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL— McKinley “Gee” Witherspoon from Hibriten High School and Joe Dalrymple from Providence High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards.

Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Witherspoon, a junior on the Hibriten football team, helped lift Hibriten to a 57-6 win in the first round of the NCHSAA Football playoffs. Witherspoon only played in the first half and stacked up 241 yards and five touchdowns on just six carries, better than 40 yards per carry. He also returned a punt 80 yards for a score.

Dalrymple, a sophomore on Providence’s men’s soccer team tallied three goals in two rounds of the NCHSAA Men’s Soccer playoffs. He had the lone score in a 1-0 win over South Mecklenburg, scoring in the 58th minute. In the Panthers’ fourth round game with Porter Ridge, he netted two goals in a 3-0 win for Providence.

Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. They will also be honored at a banquet for all recipients from this year in late April. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
