1A Men’s Basketball Championship Game Recap: Voyager wins first title beating W-S Prep 69-56

VOYAGER ACADEMY TAKES DOWN W-S PREP 69-56

Voyager Academy won their first state championship in school history as they powered past Winston-Salem Prep 69-56 in the NCHSAA 1A Men’s State Championship Game.

The Vikings got 19 points from Collin Faucette, as he went 3 for 5 from beyond the arc. Faucette was dubbed the Viking’s Most Outstanding Player. As a team, Voyager on the game shot 42.9% from three-point range, hitting a total of six on the day.

Voyager dominated the game inside, holding a 52-37 edge on the glass and the Vikings owe much of that to Coach’s son, Jay Huff who had a double-double 14 points and 14 rebounds. He was named the game’s Most Valuable Player.

There were four players in double figures scoring for Voyager, with Chance Greene adding 13 points and 7 rebounds. China Jones also had an 11 point performance with nine rebounds.

For Winston-Salem Prep (22-8), it was their second straight loss in the State Championship game. The Phoenix lost to East Carteret a season ago in the season’s ultimate game.

Zaire Williams was named the Phoenix’s Most Outstanding Player as he led Winston-Salem Prep with 20 points and 8 rebounds. He was the only Phoenix player in double figures on the afternoon.
