TURNER LEAVING JORDAN SOCCER
DURHAM — Steve Turner has resigned as the head men’s soccer coach at Jordan High School, according to the Durham Herald-Sun.
Turner guided his teams to three North Carolina High School Athletic Association state championships in 23 years as a head coach. The Falcons took the 4-A state title in 1990, 2001 and 2010. He also guided the Jordan women’s soccer team for 12 years.
The field house at Jordan is named in his honor.
“Coach Turner is one of the most respected soccer coaches in the state,” Jordan athletic director David Davis was quoted as saying in the Durham Herald-Sun. “He and his teams have accomplished great things at Jordan.
“Steve will be greatly missed not only for his abilities as a coach, but also as a counselor and a caring leader of young people. We wish him well in his future endeavors.”
The school has also announced that junior varsity soccer coach Sarah Kaneko has been promoted to head women’s soccer coach, replacing Don Jones, who resigned from the coaching post in November.
