Kinston Head Football Coach Makes Record Book

KINSTON FOOTBALL COACH MAKES RECORD BOOK THE HARD WAY

KINSTON— Kinston High School head football coach Nick Anderson has made his way into the record books, but not one that the North Carolina High School Athletic Association actually tracks. This one may be a world record.

According to Brian Bailey of WNCT-TV in Greenville, the Kinston coach was enjoying a Father’s Day weekend fishing in the Kerr Reservoir at Buggs Island Lake in Virginia.

Amazingly enough, Anderson caught a blue catfish that weighs in at (this is no misprint) 143 pounds. The catch is still pending certification, but biologists from the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries say everything about the catch seems to be in order.

The fishwas an incredible 57 inches long, with a girth of 43.5 inches. It would be Virginia’s only all-tackle freshwater world record.

The previous world record for a catfish was 130 pounds, caught by Greg Bernal of Flourisant, Missouri. Congratulations to Coach Anderson!
