Morehead Hires New Head Football Coach

EDEN MOREHEAD HIRES NEW HEAD FOOTBALL COACH

EDEN — Former Kent State University football coach Doug Martin is taking over the helm of the Morehead Panthers’ football program.

Martin, who spent the last seven seasons with Kent State, is not unfamiliar with North Carolina. Prior to his stint with Kent State, he spent 10 seasons with East Carolina University.

Coach Martin said, “Our goals for the upcoming season are not in terms of wins and loses. The winning starts today with being prepared physically and mentally and being successful in the classroom.”

Martin, who grew up in Oak Ridge, Tenn., was a part of two state championships in high school and although has no formal high school coaching experience, his philosophy is simple stating that ‘Football is football, there are a lot of great coaches in high schools that could coach at the college level. Right now, this is a good fit and the right timing.”

The Rockingham County schools released the information about the new coach.
