Whiteville Will Seek New Football Coach

WHITEVILLE — Baxter Morris, head football coach of the Whiteville High School football team the past two seasons, has been dismissed from the position, according to the Whiteville News-Reporter.

The Wolfpack posted a 3-7 record in 2011. Whiteville failed to make the state playoffs for the first time since 2001 and did not win a home game for the first time since 1960. In 2010, the Wolfpack finished with a 5-6 record, including a first-round state 2A playoff loss at Carrboro.

Morris was named Whiteville football coach in the winter of 2010 after coaching Albemarle High School to the 2009 state 1AA championship. He is a 37-year coaching veteran.
