Franklin Player Breaks 2,000-point Barrier

FRANKLIN— Franklin senior Lindsay Simpson has joined the 2,000-point career scoring club in women’s basketball, according to the Asheville Citizen-Times.

Simpson recently led the Panthers past visiting Pisgah, 61-56, to break the 2,000-point mark for her career. She had a game-high 23 points.

“It’s a great milestone, and one I’ve been working for,” Simpson said. “When you look at the list of the girls who have done this, there are a lot of great names. To be in the same category with them is a great feeling.”

The clinching basket came with just more than four minutes to play in the opening quarter. The officials stopped the game so Simpson could be photographed.

Simpson averaged 30.1 points a game as a junior. She is averaging 23 points a game thus far this season. She has signed to play college basketball for Western Carolina University and is also a two-time conference volleyball player of the year.
