STATE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES SLATED FOR SATURDAY

BURLINGTON – The 22nd annual North Carolina High School Athletic Association state championships in women’s dual team tennis will be held Saturday with four titles up for grabs at the Burlington Tennis Center.

The 3-A and 4-A state finals will start at ten o’clock Saturday morning with the 1-A and 2-A matches starting at 1 p.m. All eight finalists are conference champions who have advanced through four rounds of the playoffs and earned regional titles with victories on Wednesday.

In one of the openers, Charlotte Catholic (20-2) will take on Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons (24-5) for the 3-A crown in a rematch of last year’s title match. Catholic has won the last two 3-A women’s dual team titles and is 9-0 in previous finals.

The 1-A championship is also a rematch of last year’s final, sending Durham’s unbeaten North Carolina School of Science and Math (18-0) against Mount Airy (25-1).
