Broughton Duos In 4-A Women’s Tennis Semifinals

NCHSAA 4-A WOMEN’S TENNIS
BROUGHTON DOUBLES DUOS IN SEMIFINALS
RALEIGH — Two Raleigh Broughton doubles teams advanced to the semifinals
with a pair of wins on Friday in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 4-A women’s tennis tournament championships at the Millbrook Exchange Park.
Defending state 4-A doubles champs Katie Kane and Maggie Kane, along with teammates Asha Iyengar and Kelsey Boole, won their matches in contrasting style. The Kanes rolled to easy victories in both of their matches in straight sets, dropping only one game. Iyengar and Boole had to survived a tough three-set match in the quarterfinals to oust Charlotte Myers Park’s Emily Carpenter and Olivia Turnbull.
Kane and Kane will face Kindell Schmitt and Jessica Davis of West Forsyth in one semifinal while Iyenger and Boole take on Clare Cox and Roxanne Henshall of Greensboro Grimsley.
In singles, three of the four regional champions advanced to the semifinals, with the only exception Marisa Pereira of Fayetteville Britt.  Pereira beat Christina Woodard of Winston-Salem Reynolds in straight sets at love in the quarterfinals. Woodard had advanced over regional champ Katie Porter of Charlotte Providence, who defaulted due to illness.
Semifinals are scheduled for Saturday morning at 9 am with the winners advancing to the state championship matches later in the day. If there is inclement weather, the matches will be moved indoors at North Carolina State University and the semifinals will start later in the morning.
