Melissa joined the NCHSAA in 2017 as a part-time receptionist after retiring from the Orange County School System.  For over 27 years, she served as an assistant to the athletic departments at all Orange County middle and high schools.

In July 2019, she moved to the officiating department as the assistant to the supervisor of officials. She is a 'people person' and loves to assist our officials in regards to completing their registration process, rule books, passes, and monitoring officials' completion of eligibility requirements, and monitoring ejections and disqualification reports. She also enjoys assisting with the hospitality rooms during our state playoffs.

Originally from Moore County, Melissa graduated from Union Pines High School and was very active with starting the cheerleading program at Cameron Elementary School. Her interests were gymnastics/acrobatics, cheerleading, participated in the UPHS band as a drummer and as part of the color guard. She graduated from Hardbarger Business College in Raleigh, with an Associate's Degree in Executive Assistant Administrator, and started her career at A.E. Finely and Associates in the bookkeeping department.

After work-related travel to San Francisco, Maryland, and Mississippi, she and her husband returned to NC in 1979.  She started Knight's Clothing in the Daniel Boone Village and Century 21 Real Estate Office in Hillsborough, where she served as a store operator, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer for over 20 plus years. She has also served on numerous community committees such as secretary and treasurer for the Daniel Boone Merchant Association and the Hillsborough Chamber of Commerce and assisting with founding the annual event 'Hog Day' held in Hillsborough. She has also organized American Red Cross Blood Drives in the past and is proudly a current consistent donor.  Since 1993, Melissa has served as the athletic conference secretary and treasurer for several athletic conferences across the Triangle/Triad area. She is a member at First Baptist Church in Hillsborough and active in chancel choir and ladies bible study groups.

Melissa loves to spend time and traveling with her family.  She has two very dear and lovely daughters who are married to two wonderful gentlemen.   She has one sweet and very active grandson, Kase, who holds her heartstrings.
