Throughout the course of the 2008-2009 academic year, we will seek to recognize some of the great names of the past to highlight the heritage of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association in honor of the Association's 95th anniversary. In this edition we are pleased to recognize Everette "Shu" Carlton.



Shu Carlton was a highly successful football coach, athletic director and principal during a career that covered five decades in education, making his mark primarily in Gastonia.

In this edition we are pleased to recognize Doris Howard.



One of the winningest female coaches in the history of North Carolina, Doris Howard had a 41-year career as a teacher and coach in Cumberland County. She retired after the 1987-88 season with a career coaching mark in women's basketball of 533-231.

124 NCHSAA SCHOOLS ARE EJECTION FREE FOR 2007-08



CHAPEL HILL-- The North Carolina High School Athletic Association announced today that 124 member schools in the NCHSAA were ejection free during the 2007-08 school year.



The schools will recognized at the Association’s upcoming regional meetings in the next two weeks. There were a total of 375 member schools in the NCHSAA last year.

Donald Bonner's career included involvement in athletics from a number of different perspectives and positions.

SECOND ANNUAL NCHSAA STUDENT SERVICES SCHOOLS OF THE YEAR NAMED



CHAPEL HILL -- Four schools, one in each classification, have been named winners of the second annual North Carolina High School Athletic Association Student Services School of the Year Awards.



Perquimans High School in the 1-A classification, South Iredell among 2-A schools, Concord in the 3-A class and Hope Mills South View in 4-A earned the honor for the 2007-2008 academic year.

SPRING SCHOLAR-ATHLETE WINNERS NAMED BY NORTH CAROLINA HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION



CHAPEL HILL—Over 7,300 individual awards have been earned by students for the spring semester from the North Carolina High School Athletic Association for achievements in the classroom as well as on the playing court or athletic field.



The NCHSAA made the awards in its Scholar-Athlete program, which includes recognition of varsity teams which attain certain grades as well as individual athletes.

In this edition we are pleased to recognize Thell Overman.



Thell put together a tremendous coaching record during almost 40 years, first at Warrenton's John Graham High and predominantly at Wallace-Rose Hill High in Duplin County.

The NCSTMA is hosting its 2008 Fall Field Day and Seminar on September 16th at Elon College in Elon, NC. We are still in our first year since becoming an affiliate of the national STMA and with this transition, we have begun collecting nominal yearly membership dues [listed below]. These dues include admission and lunch at ALL 2008 field days including this one, but you must be a member to attend.
