CHAPEL HILL—The North Carolina High School Athletic Association has announced the winter standings in the Wachovia Conference Cup competition for the 2005-2006 academic year.
The Wachovia Conference Cup, sponsored annually by Wachovia and sanctioned by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association, recognizes high school sports programs that achieve the best overall performance within their respective athletic conferences. Wachovia has
sponsored the conference awards program since 1980.
Wachovia Bank, N.A., along with the North Carolina High School Athletic Association, today announced the standings for winter sports in the Wachovia Cup competitions for the 2005-2006 sports season.
The Wachovia Cup award, sponsored by Wachovia Bank, N.A., and the NCHSAA, recognizes the high schools that achieve the best overall interscholastic athletic performance within each of the state’s four competitive classifications. The Wachovia Cup program is in its 27th year.
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK-- The North Carolina High School Athletic Association held its spring 2006 Coach-Captain Retreat recently, the 23rd in a series of successful events.
The event, part of the Association’s Student Services program, was held at the Radisson Governors Inn March 17-19 and attracted students from all over North Carolina.
CHAPEL HILL—Tickets are available to the general public for an event that has become a highlight of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association year: the annual NCHSAA Hall of Fame banquet and induction ceremonies.
• PERFECT SLATES: There were only two NCHSAA teams, a pair of women’s squads, among the over 700 which began play this season which finished with unblemished records after the weekend’s NCHSAA state championship games.
Bishop McGuinness (31-0) of Kernersville defeated another team that entered the finals with a perfect record, Southeast Halifax, 54-31 for the women’s 1-A title at the Smith Center. Wilson Beddingfield (30-0) capped a perfect campaign in the 3-A women’s final, also at the Smith Center, defeating Fred T. Foard from Catawba County 64-53.

WINSTON-SALEM – Perennial wrestling powers Catawba Bandys, Eden Morehead and Cary took top team honors in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state wrestling championships on Saturday night at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Bandys, which shared the 1-A/2A tournament title in 2004 with Brevard and won it outright last year, had 114.5 points to 96.5 for runner-up Croatan. The victorious Trojans had beaten Croatan in the finals of the NCHSAA dual team championships two weeks ago.
WINSTON-SALEM -- TIght races are shaping up in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association's state wrestling tournament after Friday's action at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
In 4-A competition, Mount Tabor tallied 50 points from the first day of action to 46 for Cary. Fayetteville Jack Britt and Northwest Guilford are knotted in third with 36 points and Watauga is fifth with 33.
Davie, which defeated Cary for the 4-A dual team title two weeks ago, is currently tied for seventh.
WINSTON-SALEM-- One of the biggest single high school sporting events in the Southeast is scheduled for the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum this weekend.

Davie County outlasted Cary by a 41-23 count on Saturday to win the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s 17th annual state 4-A dual team wrestling championship in Mocksville.
The host War Eagles dealt Cary its first loss in 40 matches while improving their own record to 42-1.
Timmy Allen’s victory by a pin at the 189-pound weight class sealed the victory for Davie, which was in the finals for the seventh time and fourth time in the past eight years. It was the Eagles’ second NCHSAA dual-team wrestling crown.
CHAPEL HILL -- Gabby Mayo of Southeast Raleigh set three new state records in three events to power her school to top honors in the women’s competition on Saturday in the 20th annual North Carolina High School Athletic Association state indoor track and field championships.at the Eddie Smith Field House on the campus of the University of North Carolina
