CHARLIE ADAMS ENDOWMENT STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP
The Charlie Adams Endowed Scholarship was created in honor of Charlie Adams, former executive director of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association, for his 40+ years of dedication to helping the boys and girls of North Carolina by offering opportunities to participate in athletics.
The female award is given in honor of Charlie Adams‘ daughter, Michelle Adams Szwajkun, who participated at Chapel Hill High School on the cross-country team and ran on the 1984 state championship team, finishing 18th out of an open field of runners.
The male award is given in memory of Charlie Adams’ son, C. Scott Adams, who participated on the Chapel Hill High School wrestling team and was the first individual wrestler from CHHS to compete in the state wrestling championships; he finished 4th overall.
Eligibility requirements:
1. Female senior year student athlete participating on a varsity cross-country team at a North Carolina High School Athletic Association member high school.
2. Male senior year student athlete participating on the varsity wrestling team at a North Carolina High School Athletic Association member high school.
3. Student must meet NCHSAA academic eligibility requirements.
4. Clean disciplinary records, both school and athletic related.
5. Applicant must be a high school senior student athlete who will successfully complete graduation requirements in the spring of the current school year (2012 spring graduation) and must be planning to enroll, or already be enrolled, for the fall 2012 semester (following spring graduation) in an accredited, recognized university, college, or community college anywhere in the United States.
Award Process: This one time award amount is $1500.00 and is non-renewable. Formal notifications of scholarship awards are made via a letter from the North Carolina High School Athletic Association to the selected contact person no later than April 30, 2012.
