MARK DREIBELBIS - ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER STUDENT SERVICES & SUPERVISOR of OFFICIALS
Mark Dreibelbis (pronounced Dry Bell Biss), assistant executive director of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association, a native of Charlotte, NC. Dreibelbis came to the Association in January, 2005 from Appalachian State University, where he was the Associate Director of Athletics.
Dreibelbis obtained both his Bachelors degree in Health and Physical Education and Masters degree in Higher Education & Administration from Appalachian State University. Upon graduation, he taught physical education at Hardin Park Elementary School in Boone for six years. As chairperson of the department, he oversaw curriculum, intramurals, special programs, and coached football, basketball, softball and baseball.
He became the Annual Fund Director and Assistant Alumni Director at Appalachian in 1983. Dreibelbis moved to the Athletics Department as the Director of the Yosef Club, in charge of athletic scholarship fund raising, in 1986. After a 6-year period he became the Associate Director of Athletics in charge of facilities, football and basketball game operations, sports marketing, tickets, sports information, as well as being the administrator for 10 of Appalachian's 20 sport programs.
As the Supervisor of Officials for the NCHSAA Dreibelbis is in charge of NFHS Rules interpretations and the training/supervision of all officials in the our program. He also oversees the assigning of Booking Agents for all sports and directs the assigning of officials for all playoff and state championships.
Dreibelbis is in charge of the Association's student services program, one of the most unique offerings by a state association in the country. He is primarily responsible for the Association's efforts in the area of chemical awareness and sportsmanship/mentoring initiatives through programs inclusive of Student Athlete Summer Institute (SASI), Coach/Captain bi-annual retreats, D.R.E.A.M. Team (Daring Role Model Excellence as athletic mentors), and Peer Athlete Team Helpers (P.A.T.H). He also develops coaching leadership workshops for training in areas of steroids, supplements, team building, ethics, communication, academic monitoring and other pertinent areas necessary for effective athletic programs.
Active in both intercollegiate and interscholastic officiating, Dreibelbis has officiated NCHSAA basketball (26 years), NCAA basketball (30 years), NCHSAA baseball (12 years), NCAA Division II baseball (4 years), NCHSAA football (9 years) and was the Piedmont Officials Association Clinic Leader for 13 years. He has worked five NCHSAA State Championship basketball finals and has been awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the NCHSAA in basketball.
