On this day in history in the NCHSAA, Tarboro and Lincolnton engaged in a wild 39-36 contest in the 2-A football championship at Carter-Finley Stadium. Todd Gurley II scored his fourth touchdown of the day with 3:12 to go to lift the Vikings to the title. Gurley rushed for 242 yards in 21 carries.
