NCHSAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
SCHEDULED IN SWIMMING AND DIVING
CHAPEL
HILL-- North Carolina High School Athletic Association
state championships in all classifications of swimming and diving are set for
the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary this weekend.
The
All American Swim Supply-NCHSAA 2012 State Swimming and Diving Championships
are scheduled for February 9-11, with different classifications on each day.
The championships will kick off on Thursday with the 3-A event, followed on
Friday by the 1-A/2-A championships and then conclude on Saturday with the 4-A
competition, all at the Triangle Aquatic Center.
All
American Swim Supply is in its third year as the title partner of the NCHSAA
State Swimming and Diving Championships.
It is a full service swim store and team dealer located at Triangle
Aquatic Center in Cary.
The
partnership allows opportunities for NCHSAA swimming programs and individual
athletes statewide to secure necessary swimming related accessories and
products via Internet or in-store sales.
Swimming
will commence each day with preliminaries starting after the coaches' meeting,
which is scheduled to end at around 8:45 am. Finals are slated to begin at 5:00
pm each day.
The
diving for all classifications will occur at Pullen Aquatic Center in Raleigh.
Diving competition will start on Wednesday with the 3-A divers, with warm-ups
beginning at 1 p.m. and competition at 1:45.
The
1-A/2-A diving competition is Thursday, with all warm-ups starting at 2 pm and
competition 45 minutes later. The 4-A divers will compete on Friday, with
warm-ups starting at 1:00 and then competition 45 minutes later.
“All
American Swim Supply is proud of our partnership with the NCHSAA,” said owner
Keith Haden. “We look forward to developing new relationships with swimmers and
coaches in North Carolina."
In
men's competition, Carrboro is the two-time defending 1-A/2-A team champion,
while Lake Norman Charter captured top honors in the Western Regional.
Raleigh
Cardinal Gibbons has earned the last two 3-A men's state titles and won the
Eastern Regional, while Charlotte Catholic took top honors in the Western
event.
Two-time defending 4-A champ Charlotte
Providence will be strong again, but was second in the 4-A West regional to
Cornelius W.A. Hough. Raleigh Leesville Road won the Eastern Regional among 4-A
schools.
Last
year Apex captured the 4-A women's state championship, the fourth different
champion in the last four years. Other contenders could include Panther Creek,
which took top first place in the 4-A Eastern Regional; East Chapel Hill, which
won the 4-A Central Regional over the weekend; and Charlotte Hough, which won
the Western title.
Charlotte
Catholic won its sixth consecutive 3-A women's state title in 2011 and took the
3-A Western Regional again, while
Chapel Hill is set to challenge for state honors after taking its own Central
Regional championship.
Raleigh Charter is the defending 1-A/2-A
women's state champion, and Lake Norman Charter was the winner of the 1-A/2-A
Western Regional.
In
addition to All American Swim Supply serving as the title sponsor, the Raleigh
Sports Consortium is the primary host sponsor for the championships in Wake
County.
