NCHSAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
SCHEDULED IN SWIMMING AND DIVING
CHAPEL HILL-- North Carolina High School Athletic Association state championships in all classifications of swimming and diving are set for the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary this weekend.
The All American Swim Supply-NCHSAA 2012 State Swimming and Diving Championships are scheduled for February 9-11, with different classifications on each day. The championships will kick off on Thursday with the 3-A event, followed on Friday by the 1-A/2-A championships and then conclude on Saturday with the 4-A competition, all at the Triangle Aquatic Center.
All American Swim Supply is in its third year as the title partner of the NCHSAA State Swimming and Diving Championships. It is a full service swim store and team dealer located at Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary.
The partnership allows opportunities for NCHSAA swimming programs and individual athletes statewide to secure necessary swimming related accessories and products via Internet or in-store sales.
Swimming will commence each day with preliminaries starting after the coaches' meeting, which is scheduled to end at around 8:45 am. Finals are slated to begin at 5:00 pm each day.
The diving for all classifications will occur at Pullen Aquatic Center in Raleigh. Diving competition will start on Wednesday with the 3-A divers, with warm-ups beginning at 1 p.m. and competition at 1:45.
The 1-A/2-A diving competition is Thursday, with all warm-ups starting at 2 pm and competition 45 minutes later. The 4-A divers will compete on Friday, with warm-ups starting at 1:00 and then competition 45 minutes later.
“All American Swim Supply is proud of our partnership with the NCHSAA,” said owner Keith Haden. “We look forward to developing new relationships with swimmers and coaches in North Carolina."
In men's competition, Carrboro is the two-time defending 1-A/2-A team champion, while Lake Norman Charter captured top honors in the Western Regional.
Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons has earned the last two 3-A men's state titles and won the Eastern Regional, while Charlotte Catholic took top honors in the Western event.
Two-time defending 4-A champ Charlotte Providence will be strong again, but was second in the 4-A West regional to Cornelius W.A. Hough. Raleigh Leesville Road won the Eastern Regional among 4-A schools.
Last year Apex captured the 4-A women's state championship, the fourth different champion in the last four years. Other contenders could include Panther Creek, which took top first place in the 4-A Eastern Regional; East Chapel Hill, which won the 4-A Central Regional over the weekend; and Charlotte Hough, which won the Western title.
Charlotte Catholic won its sixth consecutive 3-A women's state title in 2011 and took the 3-A Western Regional again, while Chapel Hill is set to challenge for state honors after taking its own Central Regional championship.
Raleigh Charter is the defending 1-A/2-A women's state champion, and Lake Norman Charter was the winner of the 1-A/2-A Western Regional.
In addition to All American Swim Supply serving as the title sponsor, the Raleigh Sports Consortium is the primary host sponsor for the championships in Wake County.
