ATHENS DRIVE NAMES MARTIN HEAD FOOTBALL COACH
RALEIGH-- Athens Drive High School has announced that it is elevating an assistant coach to take its head football coaching position, according to HighSchoolOT.com.
Chris Martin has been promoted to the head coaching job to replace Jeff Smouse, who retired.
Martin has served on the Athens Drive staff for several years, coming to the Raleigh School from Lumberton when Smouse was named as the Athens Drive coach. He has most recently served as defensive coordinator.
The Jaguars were 5-7 during the 2011 season and lost in the first round of the NCHSAA playoffs. Athens Drive compiled a 45-38 overall record during Smouse's tenure, the best record in school history among head football coaches.
