REALIGNMENT COMMITTEE
HEARS FEEDBACK FROM MEMBER SCHOOLS
CHAPEL HILL-- The North Carolina High School Athletic Association held two regional realignment meetings earlier this week, one at Maiden High School for schools in the western part of the state and one at East Carolina University for schools in the east.
The primary purpose of the meetings was to give NCHSAA member schools a chance to provide feedback to members of the Realignment Committee about the two drafts that have been presented for conference alignment for the years 2013-17, as well as to hear potential suggestions and changes to the drafts.
There were almost 140 different speakers and presentations at the two meetings. There are 398 schools involved in the realignment process.
Meetings were conducted by NCHSAA commissioner Davis Whitfield, along with Realignment Committee chairperson George Norris, superintendent of the Richmond County schools; Donald Andrews, superintendent of the Randolph County schools who is serving as the co-chair in the West; and Ed Croom, superintendent of the Johnston County schools who serves as the Eastern co-chair.
Members of the committee were also in attendance, primarily with those representing regions one through four in the NCHSAA attending the Eastern meeting and those in regions five through eight in the West.
The committee heard all the presentations and then also had in writing all of the emails and letters which has been sent in to provide feedback about the plans.
The group will reconvene in February to consider adjustments and then will offer another draft to the NCHSAA membership for consideration.
