JENKINS TO TAKE BASEBALL POSITION AT SOUTH LENOIR
DEEP RUN — South Lenoir High School will have a new baseball coach for the 2012 season.
A 25-year era of South Lenoir baseball is officially coming to an end, according to the Kinston Free Press, with the upcoming retirement of veteran coach Troy Eason. Tim Jenkins will be taking over in that role.
The school announced last week that it has named Jenkins, currently the athletic director at Wallace-Rose Hill, its new varsity head baseball coach. Jenkins will take over for Eason, who will officially retire from teaching and coaching on January 31 after a 25-year run leading the Blue Devils’ baseball program and 28 total years in the classroom.
Jenkins, who will start at South Lenoir on Feburary 1, was selected from a long list of candidates who sent resumes from nearly every state in the Southeast, according to South Lenoir athletic director Lisa Smith.
Jenkins, who has been an assistant football coach at Wallace-Rose Hill, will take over a 48-year-old baseball program that has seen only three head coaches in its history— William Harper, Bobby Davis and Eason.
Eason’s last full season at South Lenoir in 2011 culminated into a 22-5 year and saw the Blue Devils come within a win of reaching the Eastern Regional championship series.
