INDIANAPOLIS HOSTING NATIONAL ATHLETIC DIRECTORS CONFERENCE
INDIANAPOLIS—
More than 1,300 high school athletic directors, including a number from North
Carolina, are attending the 42nd annual National Athletic Directors Conference
today through Tuesday at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis.
The largest
gathering of high school athletic directors in the country is co-sponsored by
the Indianapolis-based National Federation of State High School Associations
(NFHS) and the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association
(NIAAA).
After
preliminary meetings today and Saturday, the conference officially gets
underway Sunday with the first of 35 workshops and the Opening General Session.
Joe Theismann, former University of Notre Dame (Indiana) and Washington
Redskins quarterback, will be the keynote speaker at the opening session, which
begins at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Some of the
key topics to be discussed at the 35 workshops include pay-to-play programs,
maintaining programs despite budget cuts, parent relationships, Title IX,
minimizing risk in athletic programs, sportsmanship, relationship with club
sports, creating alternative revenues, preseason meetings, booster clubs and
strength/conditioning programs.
