On this day in history in the NCHSAA, Bryan George knocked in the only goal of the game with just over 10 minutes to play as Newton-Conover stunned defending state champion Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons 1-0 in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 2-A men’s soccer championship on Saturday at the Durham Bulls Soccer Stadium at the WRAL Soccer Center. George was selected as the championship match MVP.
