On this day in history in the NCHSAA, pioneering sports writer Mary Garber of the Winston-Salem Journal-Sentinel, and the Twin City Sentinel before that, passed away at the age of 92. She was the first woman to be inducted into the U.S. Basketball Writers Hall of Fame and is a member of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame.
