SCHOOLS PLAN CELEBRATIONS FOR
FOOTBALL SEASON
South Rowan and Salisbury are planning a series of celebrations for the upcoming football season, according to the Salisbury Post.
South is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the opening of the school in 1961 and the 50th anniversary of its football program. South Rowan's proud football tradition has included just five head coaches in school history.
The South Rowan Alumni Association plans to hold a reunion for a decade’s worth of players at each of this season’s home games. Those returning players will meet prior to the game in the cafeteria and will be recognized in pregame ceremonies.
South will honor players from the 1960s at the Aug. 26 game against A.L. Brown.
Players from the 1970s will be honored on Sept. 2 when South plays Northwest Cabarrus, and players from the 1980s will be welcomed back for the Sept. 23 game against West Rowan.
On Oct. 7, when South plays Carson, players from the 1990s will be honored. At the home finale against East Rowan on Oct. 14, players from the 2000s will be honored.
Friday nights this fall will be special at Salisbury High School’s Ludwig Stadium.
When the Hornets take on West Rowan on Sept. 2, all of Salisbury’s championship teams from the past school year — golf, tennis, basketball and football — will be honored.
When Salisbury plays South Rowan on Sept. 9, members of Boyden High School’s 1955 and 1957 state championship teams and J.C. Price High School’s 1940 and 1952 state championship squads will be recognized.
Coach Joe Pinyan of Salisbury hopes to get representatives from the great Boyden and Price teams involved in things such as the pregame coin toss.
