HOLLY SPRINGS PITCHER EARNS AWARD
DURHAM - Holly Springs pitcher Carlos Rodon has been selected as the 2011 North Carolina Baseball Coaches Association Player of the Year.
The left-hander helped lead Holly Springs to its first-ever NCHSAA 4-A state baseball title in June and earned the Most Valuable Player award in a sweep of Asheville T.C. Roberson in the championship series.
The Golden Hawks closed out the season at 27-2 and won their last 21 contests.
Rodon was 11-0 on the season with 135 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.40, and he posted a 23-2 career mark. At the plate, he batted .375 with one home run and 22 RBI during his senior year.
Rodon, who committed to N.C. State, was taken in the 16th round of the Major League Baseball Draft in June by the Milwaukee Brewers.
