HOPEWELL HIRES
JOHNSON
CHARLOTTE-- Hopewell High School has announced the hiring of David Johnson as its new head football coach, according to the Charlotte Observer.
Johnson, age 26, will take over for Chris Rust, who retired. Johnson is the third head coach in the school's 10-year history.
Johnson comes to Hopewell from Phillip O. Berry Academy, where he has served as the offensive coordinator for the past three years. Johnson graduated from the State University of New York at Brockport, where he played college football at the Division III school.
Some of his previous coaching experience came as an assistant in New York for the Central New York Express of the New York Amateur Football League, where in 2004 Johnson was part of the coaching staff that won the Harvest Bowl National Championship. Johnson's father was a high school football coach in New York for over 30 years.
